The National School of Drama’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav has begun. It is the largest theatre festival in the world. The festival is currently being held simultaneously in 40 cities across India. Along with Indian theatre groups, theatre troupes from many countries around the world have come to India to perform at the Rang Mahotsav. Performances of Rang Mahotsav plays are also being held in 12 countries outside India.
I’ve already decided that, like every year, I’ll enjoy some really good plays this year too. Last night I watched Ghoramukho pala, a Bengali play based on Hayavadana, a Kannada play written by Girish Karnad in 1971. The Bagha Jatin Bīkṣaṇ Natyagoshthi staged the play quite well. I watched the play with friends inside the NSD campus, under the open sky, almost freezing in the cold.
