The country’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Wednesday said it would suspend production at its Gurugram and Manesar plants in Haryana for two days, PTI reported. The company said it would halt manufacturing operations at the two facilities on September 7 and 9.
“Both days will be observed as no production days,” PTI quoted MSI as saying.
The automobile company reported a 36 per cent year-on-year drop in sales in August, its steepest so far. On Monday, it said it has reduced output by 34 per cent (y-o-y) during the month, its seventh consecutive month of production cut to align output with reduced consumer demand.
Maruti had cut output by 25 per cent y-o-y in July while in June and May the cut was 15.6 per cent and 18 per cent y-o-y, respectively. The company had cut production by 10 per cent in April while in March, the cut was just under 21 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava had last month said production will follow the market demand, and employment is related to the production volumes.

Maruti had said it produced a total of 111,370 units last month.
While the company has been putting out official production data since January, production cuts of nearly 30,000 units are understood to have taken place in December 2018 too on the back of stocks piling up after a subdued festive season.
