First-year Ricardo Vergara was arrested Feb. 26 on two felony charges of sexual assault and one misdemeanor charge of sexual battery. The charges come just weeks after former student Daniel Selby pled guilty to sexual battery. Vergara has targeted at least three other women in his time at W&L, sources said. He even admitted to the Title IX office that he assaulted a student in early October—and still, Vergara received no disciplinary action, the victim in that case told the Phi. The victim received the above messages from Vergara after he assaulted her on the Woods Creek trail while she was intoxicated. Names are redacted for privacy protection. Vergara is currently being held in Rockbridge Regional Jail without bond. A Lexington judge delayed his decision on whether to release Vergara on Friday.
