Pahlaj Nihalani Death News: Film producer and former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani has passed away at the age of 76. He had been battling liver-related ailments and was admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he breathed his last on Thursday.
A familiar name in Bollywood for decades, Nihalani built a successful career as a producer, delivering several popular films, including Aankhen, Shola Aur Shabnam, Ilzaam, Andaz, Talaash, Rangeela Raja and Julie 2. He was particularly known for his long association with actor Govinda and played a key role in backing some of the star’s most memorable early hits.
Beyond film production, Nihalani also served as the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) from 2015 to 2017. His tenure attracted significant public attention, with several certification decisions triggering industry-wide debates on censorship, creative freedom and the role of the censor board in Indian cinema.
